Parma, 10 August 2018 – Ahead of the cup clash on Sunday, we look back at the sweetest memory of a match between Parma and Pisa at the Stadio Ennio Tardini. It also happens to be the most recent clash.
Nine years ago on Saturday 9 May 2009, the two clubs met on the 39th matchday in Serie B.
With three games left, the Crociati won 2-0 to go within a point of securing promotion back to the top flight. That would come after just a year away following a draw against Cittadella in the next match.
At the Tardini with a large number of home and away fans in attendance, it proved to be tough as it often was against the Tuscan side.
The deadlock was only broken in the 71st minute by Cristiano Lucarelli who had come on five minutes earlier for Daniele Vantaggiato before getting on the ball after collecting a rebound in the box. He was wonderfully set up by the Honduran wide midfielder Julio Cesar Leon with the striker from Livorno getting around a defence that featured Argentine goalkeeper Sebastian Cejas and a young Leonardo Bonucci.
Four minutes from the end, Leon wrapped up the win with a rocket of a free kick into the top corner.
