Trento, 28 July 2018 – Following the 3-1 friendly defeat to Sampdoria at the Stadio Briamasco in Trento, Coach Roberto D’Aversa looked back on the match. “When you go up a level, be it in terms of physicality or quality, you cannot make mistakes. If we look at the game, we did quite well against a team whose players have been together for a long time. In analysing the goals, it’s clear that all mistakes will be punished when you go up a level but there were a lot of positive aspects in the match, especially when considering that we’re still in our preparation stage. In the first half, we conceded two from crosses. We often got in a position to cross, at one point Barillà stopped when it might have been better to cross and the second time the opposite happened. We’re doing well with the build-up play.  It’s clear that the opponents were of a higher standard and our quality will have to increase through hard work and having players of substance.

“The transfer market? The ownership and sporting director know what what we need, but the director has been doing well with the movements in the market and I’m confident. The club sets a budget, the coach sets the technical requirements and then the director has to find the best solutions to stay in the league. We still have players in the group who played in Serie D, it’s normal when you’ve gone up three divisions so quickly and we need to only intervene in certain aspects, I’d say that only a little something is missing. On the subject of Cassano, he’s not a target of the club, the sporting director or the coach. I consider him to be a great player but we have to think about what we need.”

What did today’s match teach us? That we didn’t see a difference out on the pitch, if Quagliarella scores with his first touch it means that there’s work to be done to improve our quality.”
