CROCIATI HISTORY – 1997, BLOMQVIST SCORES HIS ONLY PARMA GOAL AS ANCELOTTI’S CROCIATI PICK UP THEIR FIRST WIN AGAINST NAPOLI

Parma, 26 September 2018 – The first of league four wins secured by Parma Calcio against Napoli was a thrilling one.

This victory bears the name of Carlo Ancelotti, during what was his second and last season as Crociati coach.

Meanwhile, Carletto will be a key link between the two this evening at the Stadio San Paolo (21:00 CEST), as he will sit in the opposition dugout for tonight’s Serie A TIM fixture.

As for the historic game in question, Parma ran out 4-0 winners on 14 December 1997. Jesper Blomqvist initially scored the game’s opening goal with a header in the 18th minute. This was the Swede’s only goal in a Gialloblu shirt, as he did well to get on the end of a superb cross from Marione Stanic.

The remaining goals were then scored in the second half, as Dino Baggio first fired in a fierce right-footed strike before Hernan Crespo then sealed the deal with a well-taken brace.

This defeat added to Napoli’s woes that season, as they were ultimately relegated after finishing last.

Meanwhile, Parma went on to secure a sixth spot in the league and another UEFA Cup qualification, while this game came three days before their one and only involvement in the Champions League.
