Parma, 12 September 2019 – He is a player of whom both Parma and Cagliari fans will have fond memories. During a career spanning over 400 Serie A appearances, Massimo Gobbi wore the shirts of both teams.

Born in Milan on 31 October 1980, Massimo Gobbi started out in the Milan youth teams during the 1990s. He left the Rossoneri youth set-up in 1998 in order to play on loan. After one year with Pro Sesto (6 appearances in Serie C2), he joined Treviso where he would go on to make his Serie B debut. He remained with the club for two seasons between 1999 and 2001 (8 appearances) before moving to Giugliano (5 goals in 32 Serie C2 appearances) and later UC Albinoleffe (7 goals in 30 C1 appearances). It was there that he would win promotion to Serie B.

In 2003/04, he re-joined Treviso and scored five goals in 44 appearances upon his return. The next milestone came with his Serie A debut with Cagliari. His first season in the top flight saw him score three goals in 36 appearances, the following season two goals in 35 appearances. He joined Fiorentina in 2006/07 as part of a deal which saw Gianni Guigou move to Treviso, and soon made his European debut in a match against AEK Athens in November of 2007. On 12 August 2008, he faced Slavia Prague in what was his Champions League debut.

In the purple of Fiorentina, he scored two goals in 111 appearances between 2006 and 2010. After four years at the club, Massimo Gobbi signed for Parma for the start of the 2010/11 season. His first season with the Crociati saw him make 34 appearances – he made 26 in his second (2 goals) and 34 in his third (1 goal).

Gobba played two more seasons with Parma (28 and 32 appearances), before moving on to Chievo Verona. He made 86 appearances for Verona, scoring one goal. His final season as a professional footballer saw him return to Parma. He made 16 appearances in the league, bowing out as a Crociati.

Gobbi also made one appearance for the national team on 16 August 2006 in a friendly against Croatia.
