Gervais Lombe Yao Kouassi is now a Parma Calcio player so let’s get to know him a little better by going back over his career during this latest Crociati Focus.
Born in Anyama (Ivory Coast) on 27 May 1987, he began his playing career with Belgian side Beveren in 2005-06. He spent two seasons in Belgium and made scored 14 goals in 61 appearances. His Ligue 1 debut then came with Le Mans in 2007-8, as he enjoyed two seasons there and bagged nine goals in 63 appearances. He joined Lille in 2009-10, scoring 13 goals in 32 appearances (as well as 11 appearances and five goals in the Europa League) during his first season and then 15 goals in 35 appearances in his second. The latter saw the French side secure the league title and the Coupe de France.
The summer of 2011 saw Gervinho join Arsenal. With the Gunners, he made a total of 63 appearances and scored 11 goals, while also gaining Champions League experience (13 appearances and two goals). Rudi Garcia, who had already coached him at Lille, then came calling from Roma. Gervinho joined the Giallorossi in the summer of 2013 and made his Serie A debut on matchday one during a 2-0 win against Livorno. He then scored his first goal in Italy against Sampdoria.
Gervinho played for Roma on 88 occasions and scored 26 goals: 71 and 17 in Serie A, four and three in the Coppa Italia and 13 and six in both the Champions League and Europa League combined.
During the winter of 2016, Gervinho joined Chinese side Hebei Fortune, making 29 appearances in the Chinese Super League and scoring four times.
He has also enjoyed secured significant experience on the international stage, making his debut for Ivory Coast on 21 November 2007 during a friendly against Qatar. Gervinho won the 2015 African Cup of Nations, scoring two goals. With the National Team, he also took part in the 2010 and 2014 World Cup. In total, he has made 70 appearances for Ivory Coast and scored 20 goals.
